The world No Saints: Bright Hollow

Bright Hollow.

Some towns do not disappear because they are abandoned. Some disappear because they are answered.

A town missing from current maps. Everything on this page comes from Issue 1 and the publisher’s own description of it. The issue keeps the rest.

An old paper survey map on a dark desk under a lamp, with one area in the center worn away to blank paper inside a faint red pencil ring.

The map

It was not on any current map.

Bright Hollow sits in a valley of pine and wooden rooftops with a white church steeple at its center. It is not on any current map. At Morrow Biotech it is the town in the dead records.

A vintage radio receiver in a dark room, its glass dial holding a single thin red needle, rain on the window behind.

The frequency

The distress call used his private frequency.

Nobody has that number. The call still came, and Atlas answered it. When he asks who called for help, the whole town answers at once.

The dark doors of the Bright Hollow church, a thin red light showing through the gap between them.

The church

Nobody built the church.

It stands at the center of town and it listens. Ask who built it and the answer is the same every time: no one. It grew.

Atlas and the girl face the church as red rings of sound spread from its bell into the rain. Captions read: The church bell rang. The sound was red.

The bell

The sound was red.

When the church bell rings, the sound goes everywhere, into every person. That is how it reaches them. Thirty miles away, something buried in a Newark lab hears the same bell.

An empty small-town main street at night after rain, wooden storefronts on both sides and a single red light at the far end.

The promise

No one here should ever have to hurt alone.

The town gave its hurt, its guilt, and the prayers that curdled to the church so it could keep moving. The pain does not go away. It becomes theirs. Bright Hollow calls that mercy. Atlas has another word for it.

The Morrow Biotech building in Newark at night in the rain, its sign lit above a wet, empty lot.

Thirty miles away

Newark, New Jersey.

Morrow Biotech keeps a buried lab and a project it calls the endless pursuit of wholeness. When the signal spike hits, every system in the building feels it. Whatever touched Bright Hollow touches this place too.

Convergence

The signal found four.

Every path into Bright Hollow leads toward the same bell.

The bell is already ringing.
